Updates

  1. Set up goals for yourself

Setting up a goal for yourself has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles. It doesn’t matter how small or big it is! Learn a new language, run a half-marathon, join a class, visit family more often, forgive that annoying colleague.

  2. Show love and affection

Showing love and affection has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles. Help a friend to do something for free, give a present without reason, smile and smile back to strangers, show your affection, trust others and expect good things from them.

  3. Focus on what you have

Focusing on the ‘haves’ instead of the ‘have not’s’ has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles. Keep a diary of your experiences and memories throughout the years, think about what went well today, reflect on what you have and don’t take it for granted, be aware of how better off you are compared to the majority of the world

  4. Reduce material consumption

Reducing the speed of our material consumption has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles. Give something a second life (reuse, repair, or recycle), next time you feel an urge to buy something ask yourself if you really need it, switch lights off and close taps when not in use, choose renewable materials instead of disposable or oil based materials like plastic, refill your water bottle and re-use your coffee cup

  5. Be proactive

Being proactive about your surroundings, motivating freedom & equality has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles.  Find out what is going on in the news at a national and international level, use your money to vote for the kind of world you want – for example support local initiatives and small business instead of big corporations, get involved in community issues and stimulate action!

  6. Learn something new

Learn something new today, it has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles. Be curious about your surroundings, why is it that things work as they do? Why do cars have 4 tyres? go to a museum, join that live music event you saw advertised last week, learn a new style of dancing.

  7. Local initiatives

Supporting local initiatives has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles. Embrace the spirit of sharing rather than that of owning everything…  support car-sharing schemes, bicycles rent-schemes, local food markets, second hand shops, repairing services.

  8. Community spirit

Doing something for your community has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles.  Volunteering, helping a neighbour, helping to paint a park mural, helping to maintain public gardens, or bring out your neighbours’ recycling bins next time.

  9. Meaningful activities

Engaging in meaningful, slow, activities has an important effect in our happiness, well-being and sustainable lifestyles. Knitting, walking in the woods, cooking a meal from scratch with friends, reading, playing an instrument, spending time with ‘real’ people and less in the virtual world.
